Mennonite Voluntary Service Retreat

Believe it or not, the MVS retreat is just around the corner! We’re looking forward to another wonderful retreat with time to worship together each morning as well as to listen and learn from one another. There will be large sections of each day dedicated to resting and recreation in ways that suit your interest. No doubt old and new friendships will find root. All current MVS workers and Local Leadership persons are invited to join us for the week.

Guest speaker
Our guest speaker this year is going to be Anton Flores.  Anton is a person who desires to embody his convictions.  Some of his convictions that resonate with those of Mennonite Voluntary Service are his endeavors to live a life marked by generous simplicity, gracious hospitality, joyful vocation, active nonviolence, intentional community and radical discipleship. 

After teaching social work for seven years at LaGrange College (GA), Anton walked away from this prestigious career to live in solidarity with some of the most marginalized folks in America – undocumented immigrants.  Actually beginning in 2003 when Anton and his spouse, Charlotte, entered into a cooperative home ownership agreement with a Mexican family living in their hometown of LaGrange, in 2006 Anton decided to devote his full-time attention to developing a ministry of accompaniment now called Alterna. 

Anton will be leading the morning sessions and some of the elective sessions in the afternoon.  We’re excited for the knowledge, experience and passion that Anton brings to these challenging topics.

Retreat schedule
The retreat begins with arrival, at the camp, after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Please try to arrive at the camp between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those of you traveling by plane need to make sure you arrive at the Colorado Springs airport no later than 3:00 p.m. so we can get you to the camp on time.  If cheaper tickets ($100 cheaper per ticket or more) can be found by flying into Denver, feel free to use that airport, but again, be sure to arrive before 3:00 p.m. so we can get you to the camp on time.

Retreat concludes at 10:00 am on Friday, May 23. Those of you traveling by plane need to have your departure time scheduled for some time after 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
